Poor cruelty laws

To the Editor:

It seems these days that our elected representatives take anyone’s money to get them the job – and then forget altogether who they are representing.

How else can we explain the laws against exposing animal cruelty in the meat and poultry industry that are being introduced in several states, sponsored by their interest groups?

If they asked you and me, I’d think they’d have a hard time finding anyone who is OK with the cruel treatment and inhumane practices that have been exposed and that led to criminal convictions, thanks to brave men and women who put themselves at risk.

Make it a crime to expose a crime? What’s next? It’s time that big money stops to regulate itself and dictate what is good for us. We have the right to know how our food makes it to our table, and the creatures that deliver it deserve humane treatment.
