Boy hit by train in Barrington leaves hospital

BARRINGTON – An 11-year-old boy who lost his foot when he was struck by a commuter train in Chicago’s northwest suburbs has been released from a hospital about three weeks after the accident.

Dominic Szymanski was hit by a Metra train while crossing the tracks in downtown Barrington on March 15.

Police officers and a witness administered first aid until paramedics arrived.

The fifth-grader was able to return home earlier this week.

Barrington 220 School District spokesman Jeff Arnett said his recovery is going well and the boy will likely get at-home tutoring until he is well enough to return to classes.
