Harvard’s Kramer wins 400

Christian Kramer won the 400 meters for Harvard in 54.66 seconds in the Don Gooden Invitational on Saturday at Mendota.

Kramer also took third in the 200, fifth in the 100 and eighth in the long jump, all point-earning places.

Also for the Hornets, Jorge Pichardo was second in both the 3,200 (10:39.2) and the 1,600 (4:55.88). Harvard freshman Pedro Guzman was right behind Pichardo in the 1,600 to take third (4:59.55).

In the relays, the Hornets took second in the 4x800 in 9:04.75 with Timmy Wiltshire, Guzman, David Anaya and Daniel Kirk.

Harvard took fourth in the 14-team invitational with 76 points. Bureau Valley won with 103.

Gary Johnson Bulldog Relays: At Riverside, Jacobs tied with Riverside-Brookfield for first with 86 points, and Woodstock took fourth with 52 points.

The Golden Eagles took first in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. Phil Krueger (discus) and Kyle Olesen (high jump) each won individual events for the Blue Streaks.


Cary-Grove 3, Burlington Central 1: At Burlington, Andrew Split struck out 11 in a complete-game nonconference win for the Trojans.

Richmond-Burton 11, Rockford Christian 2: At Rockford, Ryne Blanton struck out 15 and homered to lead the Rockets to a Big Northern Conference win. Justin Miller also homered for R-B (2-2, 2-1 BNC).

Jacobs 6, Johnsburg 3: At Algonquin, Danny Vandewalker was 2 of 3, and Reilly Peltier struck out seven for the Golden Eagles (7-1, 1-0) in an FVC win over the Skyhawks (2-4, 0-2)

Huntley 12, Grayslake Central 0: At Huntley, Bryce Only hit three doubles and drove in four runs for the Red Raiders in an FVC win.

Marengo 9-16, Belvidere 4-5: At Belvidere, Noah Klick homered and drove in three runs for the Indians (1-3) in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader sweep. In the second game, Justin Vogel doubled and drove in three runs.  

Marian Central 7, Belvidere North 1: At Woodstock: Mike Koscielniak struck out 10 in a complete-game win for the Hurricanes.

CL South 13, Woodstock 0: At Crystal Lake, Garrett Bright doubled and drove in three runs for the Gators in an FVC win.

Prairie Ridge 14, Woodstock North 4: At Crystal Lake, Matt Furst hit two doubles and got the win on the mound for the Wolves in an FVC win.

Lake Zurich Triangular: At Lake Zurich, Hampshire defeated Lake Zurich, 8-2, but fell to Notre Dame, 7-3.

The Whips (3-2) were led by Dillon Kuhn, who picked up the win against Lake Zurch by giving up two earned runs over 52/3 innings and went 4 for 6 with two runs scored and three RBIs in two games.


Crystal Lake South quadrangular: The Gators went, 2-1, at their quad defeating both Bartlett and DeKalb, 3-2, and losing to Wheaton Warrenville South, 5-0. Brandon Jarva won at No. 1 singles against Bartlett and teamed with Kyle Devlin to defeat DeKalb at No. 1 doubles.


CL South 15, CL Central 6: At Crystal Lake Central, Tyler Mortensen scored seven goals for the Gators in the win.
