Ventura gives 3 starters day off vs. Hernandez

CHICAGO – The White Sox will have to prevent Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez from picking up career win No. 100 without three of their starters.

Manager Robin Ventura decided to rest first baseman Paul Konerko, left fielder Dayan Viciedo and catcher Tyler Flowers today. Left-handed hitter Conor Gillaspie makes his first start at third while switch-hitting Hector Gimenez starts behind the plate. Jeff Keppinger shifts to third with Konerko on the bench.

Hernandez is 3-4 with a 3.53 ERA in 12 career starts against the Sox. He hasn't pitched well at U.S. Cellular Field, however, going 1-4 with a 4.75 ERA in seven starts.

The Sox's last four games against Seattle have been decided by one run.

Right-hander Dylan Axelrod starts for the Sox, facing the Mariners for the first time in his career.
