Support ‘Human Race’

To the Editor:

The McHenry County Human Race is fast approaching.

This year, the race is supporting more than 50 local organizations. Please consider walking or running in this 5K that takes place at 9 a.m. April 21 in McHenry.

At registration, each individual chooses which organization will receive the proceeds from their race fee. You can view a list of local nonprofits looking for your support as well as register at www.mchumanrace.org. In its first two years, over $135,000 was raised. This year, we expect more than 1,000 individuals to participate.

We want to publicly thank a few key businesses that are making the Human Race possible. McHenry County Community Foundation is the 2013 presenting sponsor. Other key sponsors include Illinois State Bank, Covidien, Northwest Herald, Centegra Health System, SAGE Products, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Mercy Health System, New Balance, The Running Depot, Accelerate Rehab Centers and the Jeffery Prickett Family.

These sponsors allow us to put on the race and give away over $2,400 in cash prizes, all benefiting local charities.

Volunteer Center of McHenry County manages the Human Race. We look forward to seeing you there.

Rebecca Stiemke

Executive director, United Way McHenry County Volunteer Center
