C-G’s Efflandt throws another no-no

Lindsay Efflandt might have felt shortchanged when she got to throw only five hitless innings Monday.

But Cary-Grove’s right-hander delivered an encore performance Thursday that left no questions.

Efflandt fanned 13 in a seven-inning nearly perfect no-hitter in the circle as the Cary-Grove softball team downed Buffalo Grove at home, 1-0, in nonconference play. The senior allowed one walk and provided one of two hits for the Trojans (6-0).

GIRLS SOCCER

Pepsi Showdown: At Wheaton, Jacobs lost to Wheaton North, 1-0. Ellie Samin made three saves for the Golden Eagles (3-6).

At DeKalb, Plainfield North defeated Huntley, 2-1. Deanna Hecht scored a second-half goal, and Jessica Galason made eight saves for the Red Raiders (7-2-1).

Cary-Grove 1, CL Central 0: At Cary, a goal from Monica Weber on an assist from Michelle Kalenda provided the difference in a Fox Valley Conference crossover win for the Trojans (4-2-1).

Prairie Ridge 2, Grayslake North 0: At, Becca Hoklas scored both goals, and Whitney Whitehouse made a pair of saves in an FVC crossover win for the Wolves (3-2-1).

GIRLS TRACK

Bob Ludwigsen Invitational: At McHenry, Hampshire (159.5 points) finished first, and McHenry (139) took third in the five-team meet. Ashley Fouch won the 200 meters (26.7 seconds) and the 400 (1:01.4), and Haley Lindner won the 3,200(13:05.6) for Hampshire. Also for the Whip-Purs, Nikki Dumoulin won the triple jump (31 feet, 9 inches), Jenny Dumoulin won the shot put (38-6) and Elizabeth Pagan took the long jump (16-10).

Lauren Opatrny won the 1,600, and Carley Nicolay won the discus (123-6) for McHenry.
