Johnsburg reminds residents of rules for burning landscape waste

JOHNSBURG – As gardening season starts, the village of Johnsburg reminded its residents that landscape waste can be burned during April and May but must meet certain requirements.

Burning cannot take place within 100 feet of a habitable structure like a home or school or within 50 feet of a non-habitable structure like a detached garage or barn.

Only landscape waste generated on that property can be burned, and only during daylight hours when winds are less than 10 mph. The burning must be supervised by someone 18 years or older, and they must have a fire extinguisher or water source on hand.

Manure, garbage and construction debris cannot be burned in McHenry County.

For more information, go to the McHenry County Department of Health's website, mcdh.info.
