Cubs put Fujikawa on 15-day disabled list

CHICAGO – Before today's game against the Giants, the Cubs put reliever Kyuji Fujikawa on the 15-day disabled list because of a muscle strain in his right forearm.

Right-handed pitcher Rafael Dolis was recalled from Triple-A. In three relief appearances at Iowa, Dolis posted a 3.86 ERA (one earned run allowed in 2 1/3 innings). Fujikawa, who blew the save during yesterday's 4-3 win, is 1-0 with two saves and a 12.46 ERA in five relief appearances. Fujikawa said, through his interpreter, that is started bothering him a couple of days ago.

Manager Dale Sveum said the Cubs will use a closer by committee based on matchups. RIght-hander Shawn Camp and left-hander James Russell will be Sveum's first options. Sveum does not plan to use Marmol is the closer role at this time.

Jeff Samardzija (1-1, 2.63 ERA) starts today while the Giants send lefty Madison Bumgarner (2-0, 1.32) to the mound. Samardzija is coming off a career-best 13 strikeout performance. He recorded the most strikeouts since Mark Prior struck out 16 against the Reds on Sept. 30, 2004.
