IDPH monitoring Chicago hospital after arrests

CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Department of Public Health says it's assessing patient care at a Chicago hospital where arrests were made after an alleged kickback scheme.

The department said in a news release Tuesday afternoon that it's at Sacred Heart Hospital to assess the facility's ability to care for patients. Earlier Tuesday federal authorities arrested the hospital owner, an executive and four doctors. They are accused of a scheme involving Medicare and Medicaid and performing medically unnecessary procedures and tests.

The director of the department says his staff will conduct a full inspection of the facility to see if there are any state or federal violations.

Hospital officials said they are cooperating with federal authorities.
