Can’t lose Black Box

Published: Monday, April 22, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

I am distressed by the reports that McHenry County College’s Black Box Theater is about to be lost/taken over.

The promise of a newly built theater space is not comforting in light of the robotic program that is hastening the elimination of the Black Box. Where will theater students rehearse, build sets, create costumes/designs, write, meet, and take classes in the meantime?

I am a theater veteran who learned to fly at the Black Box, thanks to founding director Bob Riner, and have proudly watched the robust growth of productions over the years, thanks to current director Jay Geller.

What’s happening behind the scenes, MCC board? There is an audience that anxiously waits your information. Thank you.
