Recognizing volunteers

To the Editor:

During National Healthcare Volunteer Week, April 21-27, I’d like to celebrate and recognize Mercy Health System’s outstanding volunteers and their efforts.

Our 1,300-plus volunteers have been and continue to be an extraordinary and essential part of Mercy’s success. Mercy volunteers have grown in their capacity to give, serve and care at a pace equal to the growth of Mercy. They personify the spirit of community volunteerism through their generous donations of time, talent and funds to a variety of programs.

Our volunteers help House of Mercy Homeless Center residents get back on their feet and into a home of their own.

Our volunteers help cash-strapped college students continue their studies.

Our volunteers offer comforting words and compassionate deeds to Mercy’s hospice and home health patients.

Our volunteers bring hot meals and bright smiles to our Meals On Wheels recipients.

Our volunteers lessen the worry of many through our Mercy Lifeline Home Emergency Response Program.

Our volunteers put hundreds of hours into vital fundraisers such as the Love Light Tree, our hospital gift shops, Castaways Thrift Shop, Holiday Market, Jingle Mingle, and the House of Mercy Charity Ball.

Our volunteers also use their handcrafting skills to provide warmth and comfort through prayer shawls, stuffed animals, baby caps and other items.

We thank our dedicated volunteers for their time and commitment to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Mercy Harvard Hospital, Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center, Mercy Hospice Care, Mercy Home Health Care, Mercy Regional Cancer Center, and the House of Mercy Homeless Center.
