Jacobs athletic director Dan Vosnos announced Wednesday afternoon that Jim Roberts has been hired as its new varsity boys basketball head coach.

Roberts had been Round Lake’s head coach for the past three seasons and played high school basketball at Lake Zurich, where he was twice an All-Fox Valley Conference selection.

“Coach Roberts has enormous energy and passion for the game,” Vosnos said. “I am excited to have him as part of the Jacobs family and I feel great about how he will represent our school and our community.”

Roberts was the Northwest Herald Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 1996 and finished his high school career with 1,168 points, fourth on Lake Zurich’s career list. He played at NCAA Division II Northern Michigan where he was a four-year letterman and was named to the GTE Academic All-American team in 2000.
