Jager, four others selected for Jacobs High School Hall of Fame

Olympian Evan Jager, a 2007 graduate of Jacobs, is one of five members in the 2013 induction class for the Jacobs High School Hall of Fame.

Jager is joined by John Bradshaw (1979), LaShawna Canty (2000), Kate Kelly (1987) and Eric Vierneisel (2004) in this year’s class.

Jager finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2012 London Olympic Games last summer and set the U.S. record for that race. He won four state championships while at Jacobs, one in cross country and three in track and field.

Bradshaw lettered in football, basketball and baseball, was captain in all three sports and played basketball and baseball at Rockford College.

Canty won four state track and field medals, twice finishing as Class AA state runner-up in the high jump. She still holds the school record at 5-8 in that event. She competed at Mississippi and Georgia, where she now is an assistant track coach.

Kelly starred in cross country, basketball and track at Jacobs. Her cross country teams won Fox Valley Conference titles in her four years and she was a Class AA state qualifier as a junior and senior. She won two FVC track titles in the 800 meters.

Kelly still is an active runner and plays Gaelic football for a local team in Dublin, Ireland.

Vierneisel graduated from Jacobs as the boys’ career scoring leader, although he since was surpassed by John Moran. He lettered four years in basketball and also was McHenry County high jump champion as a senior.

Vierneisel went on to play basketball at California and later played professionally in New Zealand and Germany.
