D-C goes to shootout, stops Crystal Lake South

Sebastian Falinski hopes other area teams notice what his Dundee-Crown girls soccer team accomplished Thursday.

Unfazed by a tying goal from Crystal Lake South’s Bree Marshall with less than 25 minutes to play on South’s home field, the Chargers withstood two overtime periods to win in a shootout, 2-1.

“I hope it’s kind of a wake-up call,” Falinski said. “We’re always seen as an easy win, so maybe this will scare teams a little bit.”

Shannon Feld struck in the first half for D-C (5-11 overall, 1-0 FVC Valley), and Cori Schrade, Brittney Gantz and Jordan Fryer netted shootout goals. Kylie Britten made four saves for South (8-3-1, 0-2).

Huntley 3, Jacobs 0: At Algonquin, Deanna Hecht scored two second-half goals for the Red Raiders (11-2-1, 2-0) in their FVC Valley win.

Liz Foster made four saves for the Golden Eagles (4-9-1, 0-2).

Grayslake Central 3, Woodstock North 0: At Grayslake, Shanen Laabs made 12 saves for the Thunder (2-7) in their FVC Fox loss.

McHenry 2, Johnsburg 1: At McHenry, Quin Rogers scored an unassisted goal and Alexis Morales scored on a penalty kick for the Warriors (4-5-1) in their FVC crossover win. Olivia Jansen scored on an Abbi Ullrich assist for the Skyhawks (8-5).

Genoa-Kingston 4, Marengo 0: At Genoa, Makayla Pfeiffer made seven saves in the Indians’ (4-5-1, 4-4-1) BNC East Division loss.

CL Central 4, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, Alex Zeller scored on a Lexi Maze assist for the Whip-Purs (1-7, 0-2) in their FVC Fox loss to the Tigers (3-5-1, 1-1).


McHenry 19, Grayslake Central 3 (5 inn.): At Grayslake, Kelsey Cichocki smashed a pair of home runs and went 3 for 5 at the plate, Alexa McClaughrey doubled twice and Cassie Arns homered to support her winning night in the circle for McHenry (10-5).

Prairie Ridge 7, CL Central 1: At Crystal Lake, Kirsten Stevens fanned eight, walked none and allowed no earned runs on three hits in a complete-game FVC crossover win for the Wolves (10-2). Claire Bowman went 2 for 3.

Chicago Christian 12, Marian Central 2 (6 inn.): At Palos Heights, Sarah Schaeffer had two hits and Mary Black doubled in a Suburban Christian Conference loss for the Hurricanes (3-7, 1-4).

Marengo 7, Richmond-Burton 5: At Marengo, Bethany Hart struck out 14 over seven innings for the Indians (12-6, 3-2) in their BNC East win. Taylor Carlson led Marengo, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Brogan Etten led the Rockets (5-4, 3-2), going 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs.

CL South 6, Johnsburg 1: At Johnsburg, Heather Eck allowed one earned run over seven innings for the Gators (8-6) in their FVC crossover win, with Kimmy Woods and Kara Zybko each adding two RBIs in the win. Rachel Barnett went 2 for 3 for the Skyhawks (4-9).

Huntley 12, Woodstock North 4: At Woodstock, Megan Baczewski went 3 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs, Tamara Funke homered and drove in two runs and Katelyn Behrens added a double and an RBI for the Red Raiders (10-5) in their FVC crossover win.

Paige Busch went 1 for 3 with an RBI double for the Thunder (3-6).

Grayslake North 3, Cary-Grove 1: At Grayslake, Sarah Leudo went 1 for 3 with a RBI and Erin Olson went 2 for 3 for the Trojans (10-1) in their FVC crossover loss.

Dundee-Crown 3, Woodstock 2: At Woodstock, Mandy Moore and Lauren Mercado each had an RBI for the Chargers (2-6) in their FVC crossover win. Hannah Jacobs and Samantha Baker each scored a run for the Blue Streaks (2-8).

Jacobs 8, Hampshire 6: At Hampshire, Kelsey Peters earned the win for the Golden Eagles (8-5) in their FVC crossover win, giving up three earned runs over seven innings. Sara Finn went 3 for 4 for the Whip-Purs (3-11) with a stolen base and run scored.

Alden-Hebron 12, Westminster Christian 1 (5 inn.): At Elgin, Sparkle Lagerhausen struck out eight over five innings for the Giants (7-3, 3-0 Northeastern Athletic Conference), with Grace Jones going 3 for 4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.


Stevenson 12, McHenry 3: At McHenry, Annalise Anderson, Camilia Skowron and Madison Thompson recorded singles wins for the Warriors.
