Police searching river for Maywood boy

MAYWOOD (AP) — Authorities in Maywood are searching a river for the body of a 1-year-old boy they believe was beaten to death.

Maywood Police Officer Michael Hurd says a team of professional searchers is joining authorities in the search of the Des Plaines River.

The toddler, Bryeon Hunter, has been missing since his mother reported he had been kidnapped last week.

Prosecutors later said that story was a cover-up and that Lakeshia Baker beat her son to death as her boyfriend restrained him.

Baker and her boyfriend, Michael Scott, both are charged with first-degree murder.

According to prosecutors, both defendants said the boy's body was placed in a backpack, but they each accused the other of disposing of it in the river.
