As Johnsburg recovers from residents, village offers tips

JOHNSBURG – The village of Johnsburg issued some reminders as residents begin to clean up following the flooding that swept the area:

Building permits are not required for the removal of damaged carpeting or dry wall, but are required for the replacing electrical wiring, plumping, roofs and siding as well as site grading. Fees can be waived. Permit applications are available on the village website, johnsburg.org, under the "Resident Handbook" tab at the top of the page.

Be careful if your water well cap is submerged because your water could be contaminated. Water can be tested through McHenry Township. Pick up sampling bottles at their office, 3703 N. Richmond Road, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For the owners of damaged homes or business, they can request a reassessment of their property's value for the tax bill sent out in 2014. Contact the McHenry Township A ssessor office at 815 - 385 - 0175 for more information.

The entire list of advise is available at the village website, johnsburg.org.
