Published: Thursday, May 2, 2013 1:49 p.m. CDT

McHENRY – Centegra Health System’s breast health program will sponsor Mammo Monday events throughout McHenry County during May and June.

Offerings include screening mammograms, bone density screenings, free expert bra fittings and light snacks.

Upcoming Mammo Mondays will be offered from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following dates and locations:

• May 6 at Centegra Gavers Breast Center

• May 13 at Centegra Hospital-McHenry

• May 20 at Centegra Health Center-Huntley

• June 3 at Centegra Gavers Breast Center

• June 10 at Centegra Hospital-McHenry

• June 17 at Centegra Health Center-Huntley

• June 24 at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock

Beginning in May, Centegra Gavers Breast Center–Crystal Lake will offer tomosynthesis, 3-D breast imaging. This state-of-the-art technology captures multiple slices of the breast at all different angles. Overlapping tissues can be closely viewed, reducing false positives and giving the radiologist an improved way to detect cancer earlier.

The new technology was made possible by a gift from the Centegra Hospital-Woodstock Auxiliary, McHenry Country Club Ladies Association, Richmond Spring Grove Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network, and many more to the Centegra Health System Foundation.

The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for women 40 and older to maintain breast health and as a proven way to detect breast cancer in its earliest stage.

Quick 30-minute appointments are recommended. Walk-ins are welcome at Centegra Health Center–Huntley and Centegra Gavers Breast Center–Crystal Lake. Physician orders are needed for a mammogram screening and a bone density exam. Patients should bring a physician order to the appointment.

To schedule an appointment, call 815-334-5566 or visit for details. Financial assistance also is available.
