Cubs' Garza feels fine after rehab outing

CHICAGO – Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza is back in Chicago after his first rehab start and all indications point to a return that may be only a couple weeks away.

Garza (left lat strain) may only need two to three more rehab starts before he can be activated from the disabled list. Before Thursday's game against the Padres, Garza said felt good and was experiencing normal soreness after he threw 2 2/3 innings (42 pitches) Wednesday at Double-A Tennessee.

After getting a day off Wednesday, left fielder Alfonso Soriano is back in the lineup. Shortstop Starlin Castro is batting fifth for the second consecutive game, but manager Dale Sveum said that's only temporary. Sveum wanted to put Cody Ransom in the No. 2 spot since he's hitting .500 in his last five games.

Left-hander Travis Wood (2-1, 2.25 ERA) starts for the Cubs while lefty Eric Shults takes the mound for the Padres.
