Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith added a new role Tuesday: proud father.
Keith, 29, flew home to Chicago on Tuesday morning to be with his wife for the birth of their first child, a boy. He missed the Hawks' morning skate at the Xcel Energy Center, but he will return to Minnesota in time for the team's 8:30 p.m. CT start of Game 4 against the Minnesota Wild.
"That's good news all the way around," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said.
Quenneville said he was glad Keith was able to leave on a short flight to Chicago.
"Family comes first in a situation like that," Quenneville said. "We'd want him to be there before his child was born.
"In this situation, it's an easy decision. We're very happy that he was there in time. It's all worked out."
