KENILWORTH, Ill. (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. Bob Dold says he will seek another term in 2014.

The Kenilworth Republican announced Wednesday in a letter to supporters that after "deep reflection" he's decided to run for his former seat in the 10th District, which stretches north of Chicago to Wisconsin.

Dold narrowly lost to Democratic businessman Brad Schneider in November. It was one of the most surprising upsets among U.S. House races in Illinois. Democrats have long been after the territory where Republican Mark Kirk served five terms as congressman before he won his U.S. Senate seat.

In the letter Dold describes himself as an "independent-thinking" and "moderate member of Congress." He touts his ability to work on both sides of the aisle.

Dold first won his seat in 2010.
