Best interest of Fox Lake

To the Editor:

It seems Fox Lake residents can’t stop shooting themselves in the foot.

Approximately 17 percent of the registered voters in Fox Lake voted in the last election. They keep changing horses in midstream and haven’t re-elected a mayor in over 30 years. This accomplishes nothing other than to discourage developers from coming to Fox Lake while current businesses are leaving.

The 11th-hour letter sent to supporters of the Focused on Fox Lake Party and signed by members of the Common Sense Party in the last election insinuating they might have been intimidated or harassed into such support has brought Fox Lake to a new low in campaigning.

Fox Lake has lost out on a number of chances to bring businesses to town because of the actions of a small percentage of its residents. One was when a petition against a TIF district for a hotel and waterpark caused the developer to lose his financial backers.

The hotel and waterpark would have provided jobs, paid sales taxes to Fox Lake, and been an asset to attract other businesses to the area.

Hopefully, the new mayor and trustees will have a big enough magic wand to accomplish all they promised while campaigning, put on their “what’s best for Fox Lake” hats and make decisions in the best interest of all the residents of Fox Lake as Mayor Bender always did.
