5 Faves: Things we are excited about for the week of May 23

I can’t defend the past couple seasons of “The Office.” Some of the episodes have been hard to sit through, and not because of the uncomfortable-yet-hilarious moments the series mastered in earlier seasons. But Thursday’s penultimate episode, with its return to office hijinx and awkward relationships, reminded me of the wry humor and insight of the show at its best. The episode’s sense of nostalgia also perfectly set up the retrospective that will air at 7 p.m. before the finale at 8 p.m. today on NBC. The special will look at the show’s best moments combined with interviews with the creators and cast. The network is keeping mum on whether Steve Carell, who starred as sweet, bumbling boss Michael Scott for seven seasons, will be back for the final episode. But whether or not my favorite Dundies host pops up, I know it’ll be a good time. (That’s what she said.) – Valerie Katzenstein
