McHenry holds off Huntley

The McHenry baseball team defeated Huntley, 2-1, on Thursday at McHenry, spoiling the Red Raiders’ chance for an outright Fox Valley Conference Valley Division title.

With the loss, Huntley tied Crystal Lake South for first in the Valley. South tied Prairie Ridge for the Valley title last season.

The Red Raiders loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but Andrew Reisinger got Kam Sallee to ground out to short to earn the save for the Warriors (20-7, 13-6).

Devon Gehrke gave up five hits and no earned runs over 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts for McHenry, with Adam Mattson going 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Bryce Only had a solo home run for the Red Raiders (23-5, 14-5). Eric Luecht took the loss despite giving up only two hits.

Grayslake Central 10, Woodstock North 0 (5 inn.): At Woodstock, Javier Lares and Josh Jandron each went 1 for 1 for the Thunder (6-14, 3-8) in their FVC Fox Division loss.

Harvard 6, Genoa-Kingston 2 (11 inn.): At Genoa, Justin Nolen, Travis Heck and James Musgrove all had three hits for the Hornets (6-18, 3-9) in their Big Northern Conference East Division win.

Marian Central 7, Carmel 3: At Mundelein, Tanner Spoden and Edgar Ross homered for the Hurricanes (16-9) in their nonconference win.

Burlington Central 4, Prairie Ridge 2: At Burlington, Bryan Klendworth and Danny Pecoraro each had an RBI for the Wolves (23-10) in their nonconference loss.

SOFTBALL

Cary-Grove 3, Lakes 1: At Cary, Sarah Leudo went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Trojans (19-4), with Lindsay Efflandt and Amy Clemment each adding an RBI in their nonconference win.

Efflandt returned to the mound for the first time since April 22 after suffering broken bones in her face from a line drive. Efflandt, pitching in relief of winner Amanda DeGroot, faced nine batters in three innings with four strikeouts.

McHenry 12, Dundee-Crown 2 (5 inn.): At McHenry, Kristin Koepke struck out eight over four innings for the Warriors (19-10, 9-3) and went 3 for 4 at the plate in their FVC Valley win. The Warriors tied Cary-Grove for second in the Valley with the win.

Casey Weeks had a two-run home run for the Chargers (3-20, 0-12).

Jacobs 5, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, Bria Romine went 2 for 2 for the Thunder (10-24) in their FVC crossover loss to the Golden Eagles (24-12).

Genoa-Kingston 15-11, Harvard 5-1: At Harvard, the Hornets lost both games of a BNC East doubleheader.

Sam McCloud had a solo home run in Game 1 for Harvard, and Randi Blazier had a triple in Game 2.

LACROSSE

CL South 13, Prairie Ridge 10: At Crystal Lake, Tyler Mortensen scored five goals for the Gators, with Will Grant and Robbie Wagner each adding four. Dan McAvoy scored two goals for the Wolves.
