Springfield looking at local concealed carry law

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Another community is exploring a possible ordinance on concealed guns in the event state lawmakers fail to pass a law by a federal court's deadline.

Illinois lawmakers have until June 9 to legalize concealed carry after a court ruled that Illinois' ban is unconstitutional.

The (Springfield) State-Journal Register (http://bit.ly/19Q6DHn ) reports that Alderman Tim Griffin has asked city attorneys to draft guidelines for discussion by the full City Council this month.

Griffin would want the ordinance to include a provision to honor out-of-state gun permits and another requiring motorists tell police they have concealed weapons in their vehicles when they're pulled over.

Earlier this month in Cook County, the board of commissioners started studying a proposed ordinance that includes restrictions on who can carry guns and where they can carry them.
