Two beaches under advisory for high bacteria levels

Published: Saturday, May 25, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

WOODSTOCK – Beaches in Lake in the Hills and Wonder Lake are under an advisory after water sampling showed high levels of bacteria, according to the McHenry County Department of Health.

Indian Trails Beach on Woods Creek Lake in Lake in the Hills and Shore Hills Beach at 3450 E. Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake were placed under advisory and will be resampled next week.

The advisory means there is an elevated health risk because of the elevated bacteria levels found in the water.

All licensed beaches in the county are tested every two weeks throughout the summer for E. coli to determine water quality.

The health department posts advisory or closed signs at any beaches with high levels of bacteria.

The sampling results are available online at www.mcdh.info.
