CHICAGO – The Cubs and right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa received the worst possible news regarding the reliever's arm injury.
An MRI showed Fujikawa will need season-ending Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. Fujikawa was put on the 15-day disabled list on Monday for a second time this season because of a muscular strain of his right forearm. However, the MRI revealed a more serious injury.
Manager Dale Sveum said Carlos Marmol, Carlos Villanueva and Rafael Dolis will be primarily used in the eighth inning for setup situations with Fujikawa out.
The White Sox visit Wrigley Field today for the first of two games. A quick turnaround after yesterday's postponed game due to rain led to manager Robin Ventura's decision to start Adam Dunn at first base instead of Paul Konerko. Neither were a bad choice. Dunn's 43 career home runs against the Cubs are the second-most among active players trailing Albert Pujols (53). Konerko is batting .304 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 33 career games at Wrigley.
John Danks (0-0, 4.50 ERA) makes his second start of the season while the Cubs send right-hander Scott Feldman (4-4, 2.80) to the mound.
