Ice Cream Social of 1858 set in Ringwood

Published: Wednesday, June 5, 2013 2:04 p.m. CST

RINGWOOD – All ages are invited to join McHenry County Conservation District volunteers in period attire as they re-create the feel of an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social of 1858.

Attendees may drop in anytime between noon and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Powers-Walker House in Glacial Park, 6201 Harts Road.

The event offers a break from hectic modern life. Attendees may sip lemonade, eat ice cream, play frontier games or tour the historic Powers-Walker house, which is open to the public only a few times a year.

Various historical characters will stop by to tell of their lives, including a cavalryman and his horse heading off to defend the frontier.

Registration is not required.

For information, call the Prairieview Education Center at 815-479-5779 or visit www.mccdistrict.org.
