Cubs draft San Diego 3B Bryant with No. 2 pick

The Cubs drafted University of San Diego third baseman Kris Bryant with the No. 2 pick in tonight's First-Year Player Draft.

After the Houston Astros selected Stanford right-hander Mark Appel with the first overall pick, the Cubs bypassed on Oklahoma right-hander Jonathan Gray, who tops out at 100 mph. Bryant, 20, hit .329 with 13 doubles, three triples, 31 home runs, 80 runs scored and 62 RBI in 62 games.

Bryant's 31 home runs led the nation.
