Johnsburg's Grundy picked by Oakland in 10th round

This time, Jerad Grundy will sign.

Three previous times the 2009 Johnsburg graduate has been selected in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft. And all three times, Grundy chose to pitch in college the next season.

Grundy, a left-handed pitcher from Kentucky, was chosen in the 10th round by Oakland Friday and with no more college eligibility, he likely will become a professional.

Grundy (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) has been clocked in the low 90 mph range. He was 6-6 with the Wildcats this season, with a 4.86 ERA and 61 strikeouts and 20 walks in 83 1/3 innings.

Last year, Grundy was taken in the 26th round by Minnesota after posting a 6-3 record with a 3.78 ERA, 63 strikeouts and 36 walks in 85 2/3 innings.

Grundy was taken by Texas in the 46th round after his senior year of high school, but he chose to attend Miami (Fla.). He transferred to Heartland Community College for his sophomore season and was taken by Miami in the 42nd round.
