Man dies after hitting third rail at CTA station

CHICAGO — Chicago authorities say a 44-year-old man died overnight when he fell off a north side train platform near Wrigley Field and died after hitting the electrified third rail.

Police say the man may have been drunk when he toppled onto the tracks at the Addison Red Line stop around 1:30 a.m. on Friday

He was pronounced dead a short time later at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Service was shut down for about 90 minutes, but was back up and running for the morning commute.
