McHENRY – The McHenry Parks and Recreation Department is hosting several special events in June at the Peter J. Merkel Aquatic Complex (formerly known as Knox Park Pool) and Petersen Park Beach. Events include pool parties, a free boat rental day and free concession days.

The annual Kickoff Pool Party will be Wednesday. Activities, games and prizes will entertain all ages. The annual Rootbeer Float Party will be June 26. Free root beer floats will be available to children 14 and younger. Both parties will be held at the Merkel Aquatic Complex, 201 S. Green St., from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The Free Boat Rental Day will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. June 19. Free 20-minute boat rentals will be available for one- and two-person kayaks, two- and four-person paddleboats, canoes and a rowboat. All rules and regulations for boat rentals apply, and a rental agreement must be signed. Reservations are required by calling Petersen Park Beach at 815-363-2126. The beach is at 4311 Lakewood Road and is open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.

Free Concession Days will be offered at the Merkel Aquatic Complex on June 18, and at Petersen Park Beach on Monday and June 24. On these days, the first 50 swimmers to the pool or beach will receive the free concession item of the day.

For all special events, daily admission fees still apply. For information, contact the McHenry Parks and Recreation Department at 815-363-2160 or visit www.ci.mchenry.il.us.
