CRYSTAL LAKE – Learn how to sell handmade crafts or vintage items online, discover edible and medicinal plants outside or say goodbye to writer’s block with new special interest classes this summer offered by McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department.

• All About Etsy: Participants will learn how to set up their online shop with photos, a profile, and a shop banner, along with a marketing plan and selling dos and don’ts. Class takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Room E112 of the college, 8900 Route 14. The cost is $19.  Use course ID: NPC S06 006 when registering.

• Edible and Medicinal Plant Hike: Tom Dorsch, a wilderness guide, outdoorsman, and certified herbal therapist, will point out plants that American Indians and frontiersmen have used over the centuries for health and survival. The class takes place from 8 a.m. to noon June 29. The cost is $49.  Use course ID: NPG S84 006 when registering.  Students will be contacted before class for location.

• Writing For Publication: Learn how to research publication markets, write for genre niches, and explore the benefits of critique groups. Led by a multi-published women's fiction novelist/poet, this is a hands-on writers' workshop featuring methods to revise works in progress, as well as ways to capitalize on elements of a story to make the piece more marketable. The class takes place from 6 to 9 p.m.  Monday and Wednesday, June 17 and 19, in Room D152.  The cost is $69.  Use course ID: NWT S49 006 when registering.
