Not for ‘reputation’

Published: Wednesday, June 12, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

I read Mr. Ray Cziczo’s letter of June 1 with both amusement and disgust. It appears he is saying we should go to war with North Korea to “preserve our once-fearsome reputation.”

Our adventures in Iraq and the continuing fighting in Afghanistan have taught him and his ilk nothing. Thousands of American soldiers are dead, tens of thousands injured, physically and mentally. There have been as many as 300,00 civilian casualties.

The cost of these adventures in money is approaching $2 trillion (in borrowed money; our federal taxes have not increased.)

I have two grandsons who served several tours of duty in Iraq. They are scarred for life. War should be the last option, and not for “reputation.”
