ALGONQUIN – The Illinois State Police and the Algonqun Police Department will conduct a joint roadside safety check Friday evening in Algonquin.

Officers will watch for drunken drivers, those transporting open liquor, those operating unsafe vehicles, and motorists driving with suspended or revoked licenses.

Alcohol and drug impairment remains a significant factor in more than 40 percent of motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.

The roadside safety check is part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign and is funded through a grant from the U.S Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
