Beautify McHenry more
To the Editor:
As I drive past the intersection of Routes 120 and 31, I see the buildings for sale, and I think what an eyesore this has been for McHenry. I see the riverwalk area trying to find itself.
Recently, the Northwest Herald ran a piece in the American Profile insert. It talked about greenways and riverwalks and how they bring nature into cities.
I would like to propose that the city consider purchasing the old funeral home and the commercial building that can never hold a business.
Develop it with open areas of a park, entertainment and eateries. Dredge out millstream and continue the riverwalk all along there. Maybe even feature boat rides.
McHenry always has been a river town. That’s what brought the first settlers here. That’s what brought my parents here in the 1960s. Towns all along the Fox are showcasing this natural resource. Let’s give the future generations a McHenry to be proud of and a place they can live in and enjoy all season long.
I know the cost of this plan is not without discussions. However, the buildings are for sale now. It’s the perfect time to act.
