Boy Scout expulsion

To the Editor:

A few days ago, a saga involving a church pastor, the Boy Scouts and homosexuality was a frontpage news story.

What a combination of elements. It is a microcosm of social issues being discussed on the national scene. Locally, can you imagine what  the young Scouts think since they are no longer welcome to meet at a church-owned facility because the national Scout group made a pronouncement regarding a matter – homosexuality – about which, most of them have no awareness or knowledge and are not participants in.

The implication that homosexuals are constantly seeking sexual opportunities is no more likely than heterosexuals doing the same.

Are these boys now prohibited from attending services in that church?

Conversely, in the Chicago Archdiocese, Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish schedules a regular Sunday Mass, making a special effort to welcome anyone who openly or tacitly identify themselves as gay or lesbian.

Same religion, but different application of a spiritual message.
