To the Editor:
It’s appalling that Drs. Beth N. Rom-Rymer and Patricia Farrell continue to misrepresent and portray SB 2187 as a solution to mental health crisis in the state of Illinois.
Psychologists with prescribing privileges in New Mexico and Louisiana already proved that they bring nothing to address gaps in mental-health-care delivery because the psychologists with prescribing practices end up in urban areas, practicing with clientele with capacity to afford mental-health care.
When did law enforcement became experts in determining who can deliver quality care?
Yes, SB 2187 passed in one chamber in Springfield. That’s what $1 million and seven dedicated lobbyists will get you in state of Illinois.
It’s time to stop using patients as pawns in this fight for territory of psychiatrists.
Psychologists should focus on what they wanted to do to begin with, which is “talking” to their patients, be available to the patients, and see them when they are in need.
