A Huntley woman and two girls were taken to a hospital after a single-car accident Friday morning in rural McHenry County.

Mary C. Quinones, 28, of Huntley, was headed west in a 2001 Ford Focus when the car left the north side of the roadway, hitting a concrete culvert and overturning, according to a preliminary investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office and the Huntley, Union and Marengo fire protection districts responded about 8:15 a.m. Friday to the accident, which happened in the 16800 block of Marengo Road in unincorporated Coral Township, south of Union, according to a news release.

Quinones was taken by REACT medical helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where she was in good condition, the hospital said. The two girls who were also in the car – one is 6 years old and the other 7 – were taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

The sheriff’s office said they were stable.

Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be involved, but distracted driving is suspected to have played a role in the crash, the release said. The accident is under investigation.

Quinones was wearing a seat belt and the front air bags were deployed, the release said. It was undetermined whether the girls were wearing seat belts.
