CARY – Divers on Monday morning were searching an area of the Fox River near where a Chicago woman was last seen more than 14 years ago.
The Cary Police Department is continuing the investigation into the disappearance of Wendy M. Kimura, who was last seen walking along Route 14 in Cary in May 1999.
Police, along with other agencies, performed a land search around the Arlington Club subdivision and Jack’s Channel on Saturday. Dive teams were performing a water search and using sonar equipment on Monday near Route 14 and North River Road in the Fox River.
“We had some new information that came forward and we are taking another look at [the case],” Cary police Sgt. Ed Synek said. “This remains an active missing persons case until something changes that.”
Kimura was living in Chicago and took the train to Cary to spend the night with a friend on May 20, 1999.
The friend said Kimura last was seen May 21, 1999, walking on Route 14 in Cary, perhaps to catch a train in Cary or Fox River Grove.
She was later was reported missing by her mother.
The search on Monday included members of the Barrington, Fox River Grove, Cary, Wauconda and Long Grove fire departments, as well as sonar teams from Lake and McHenry County and a dive team from Cary.
