Volunteers needed for work at TLC sites
WOODSTOCK – The Land Conservancy of McHenry County has three upcoming opportunities for residents to help take care of local natural areas.
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 26 at TLC’s Acorn Lane Preserve in Lake in the Hills. The site is at the northeast corner of Randall Road and Acorn Lane just north of the hardware store. Volunteers should park in the lot and walk into the site from there. Volunteers will continue clearing brush at this 13-acre natural area along Woods Creek.
• 9 a.m. to noon June 29 at TLC’s Gateway Park in Harvard. Volunteers will help rescue large oaks from the grip of non-native brush that threatens their survival. The 17-acre park is at the intersection of Heritage Lane and Route 23 at the south end of Harvard. Park along Heritage Lane.
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 30 at the city of Woodstock’s Ryder’s Woods Park on the north side of Kimball Avenue, just west of LakeAvenue. Volunteers will continue clearing brush from around the oaks found at this natural gem in the heart of the city.
Refreshments and hand tools will be provided. No experience necessary. Wear slacks and long sleeves to help avoid getting scratches from the brush as well as insect bites. Please contact Melissa at firstname.lastname@example.org or 815-337-9502 with any questions.
