Fire destroys garage, motor home

CARY – An early morning fire destroyed a motor home and single-car garage in unicorporated McHenry County Wednesday, but no one was hurt.

Cary Fire Lt. Michael Douglass said the Cary Fire Protection District was dispatched to 719 Main Street Road shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday to extinguish a fire that had fully engulfed a detached, single-car garage and 30-foot motor home parked next to it.

The fire took 30 minutes to extinguish with the assistance of the Algonquin Lake in the Hills, Fox River Grove and Nunda Rural Fire Departments. Because it was in an unincorporated area, Douglass said it required the use of water tankers as no hydrants were available.

William Maloney, who rents out the property, lost his motor home. The person he rents the property to was in the house 250 feet away from the garage, Douglass said, and was not injured.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
