D-200 as Big Brother

To the Editor:

Woodstock School District 200 is mandating that all parents with children planning to be in extracurricular activities next school year attend a healthy lifestyles presentation or their kids will not be allowed to participate.

The district has good intentions for putting on this program, and many will find value in it. However, parents were required to attend – not invited. This is an unwelcome intrusion into our lives and an overreach of authority.

How much is the district spending to have someone come in and lecture us on how to feed our kids?

I call upon District 200 to invite the parents and not make mandates to attend an insulting lecture.

This is big brother at the local level.
