Benefit for Cary-Grove's Jim Miller planned

Published: Sunday, June 23, 2013 7:35 p.m. CDT

Family and friends will have a benefit event for Cary-Grove teacher and coach Jim Miller on Aug. 11 at The Shores of Turtle Creek in Spring Grove.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. and proceeds will go toward helping Miller and his wife Vicki pay for his expenses as he battles Lyme disease.

Miller has experienced a difficult year starting in September when he felt weakness on his left side. After five months of seeing different doctors, Miller was diagnosed by one specialist with ALS. Later, he discovered he had Lyme disease. Miller teaches physical education and is an assistant coach in track and field.

Unfortunately for the Millers, Jim was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease and not acute Lyme disease. Chronic Lyme disease is not covered by the Millers’ insurance, so while he is on intravenous antibiotics that will make him better, they have to pay for it themselves.

Anyone who would like to donate an item for the event’s silent auction may do so by contacting Jenny Hertel (847-561-7946 or or Vicki Miller (815-354-1514 or Monetary donations may be made directly to McHenry County Federal Credit Union c/o James Miller Benefit Fund, 804 N. Front St., Suite A, McHenry, IL 60050.
