McHenry offers event on child car seat safety

Published: Monday, June 24, 2013 2:55 p.m. CST

McHENRY – Parents and caregivers can get advice on child car seats at an event Tuesday in McHenry.

Five certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot just north of McDonald's in the 1900 block of North Richmond Road.

They can check car seats for proper installation and advise parents, grandparents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats and install them properly in their vehicles.

The event is free to the public.

This is one of more than 15 events to be hosted by the McHenry Police Department this year. Cmdr. Laura King can be reached at 815-363-2218 for information and to find out when the other dates are.

Car accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. About two children 12 or younger were killed and 325 were injured each day in accidents in 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
