To the Editor:
Have you ever moved? I have.
The same is true today as it has been throughout history: People move for a better life for themselves and their families.
Years ago, I moved from Buffalo. It’s hard to move, pack up everything, and go to a new place. But you do it in order to put food on the table, to provide for your family, or to send your kids to a decent school.
Immigrant Americans move here for the promise of freedom and opportunity.
Moving to make a better life for your family is one of the best things and hardest things a person can do.
Today’s immigrants are just as American as any other generation of newcomers. They were just unfortunate enough to come at a time when the United States has a disaster of an immigration system.
I thank U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin for supporting comprehensive immigration reform, and it’s U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk’s turn to take a stand and support it, too.
