Crystal Lake man gets prison time for drug offense

WOODSTOCK – A Crystal Lake man was sentenced to five years in prison on a felony drug charge.

Cleophas C. McCaskel, 39, pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Additional misdemeanor offenses against him were dropped as part of plea deal accepted by McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather.

Assistant State's Attorney Kate Lenhard said that in June 2010, McCaskel was in possession of more than 1 gram, but less than 15 grams of cocaine, with the intent to deliver. The charge is a Class 1 felony, with a sentencing range between four and 15 years in prison.

McCaskel was on probation for a 2009 offense of filing a false police report at the time of his 2010 drug arrest. Prather sentenced him to one year in prison for the older case and four for the most recent. His sentences will be served consecutively.
