GURNEE – A teenage driver involved in a crash while drag racing has been charged with reckless homicide in the death of a 16-year-old passenger.

Police in Gurnee say the driver lost control while racing another car Monday night on Route 120 in northern Illinois.

Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd said 16-year-old Cynthia Perez of Antioch was thrown from the car's backseat and killed.

Three other people were injured, including the driver, 17-year-old Jeremy A. Betancourt of Antioch.

He was charged Tuesday with reckless homicide and aggravated street racing. He was ordered held on $250,000 bond.

The driver of the other car involved in the race was also charged with aggravated street racing.
