CHICAGO – A Cook County judge has found a man guilty of sexually assaulting and beating to death a toddler he was caring for on Christmas Eve five years ago.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Cook County Judge Kenneth Wadas on Wednesday determined that 32-year-old Henry Myles acted alone when he killed 23-month-old Promiss Hodges on Dec. 24, 2008, at the home of Myles’ cousin on Chicago’s South Side. The judge dismissed the contention by Myles’ attorney that some of the child’s bruises were caused by spankings by her mother. Nor did he believe Myles’ attorney’s argument that some of the girl’s injuries were the result of the Myles improperly giving her CPR.

The judge found Myles guilty of murder and predatory sexual assault after a four-day bench trial.
