Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith visits Crystal Lake
CRYSTAL LAKE – Duncan Keith has wicked slap shots, a 15-year-old Lake in the Hills resident said after getting four jerseys signed by the Blackhawks defenseman.
Mike Korytkowski purchased four of the 350 to 400 autograph tickets sold at Martin Chevrolet in Crystal Lake Thursday evening, just three days after the Hawks won the Stanley Cup for a second time in four years.
“Of course, my family being insane hockey fans, we’re jumping on the couches screaming, celebrating the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup,” Korytkowski said. “I mean, I’m that surprised. They’re the Blackhawks. They’re that good.”
Keith is the first Blackhawks player to make a public appearance in the area since the win.
“It’s been awesome,” Keith said. “Chicago is, in my mind, the best sports city in the whole world really, best fans, best teams and best people.”
Karen Baker, 24, of Mokena, will spend her weekend celebrating the Hawks win.
She drove an hour and half in stop-and-go heavy rain to get to the signing in Crystal Lake, thrilled to get Keith’s signature because he doesn’t do many events.
She’s heading to Chicago Friday morning for the parade, which will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at Washington and Des Plaines streets.
On Saturday, she’s going to three autograph signings and then will be back in Crystal Lake on Sunday to get autographs from four other players set to appear at Martin Chevrolet, 5220 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.
Keith hasn’t deciding how he’s going to celebrate when he gets his 24 hours with the Cup.
“I’m definitely excited to have a day with the Cup again,” he said. “Last time I had it was real special. I think this time when I have my day with the Cup, I’m definitely going to have a good party. That’s for sure.”
On Sunday, four more Blackhawks players will be at Martin Chevrolet, 5220 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake, to sign autographs.
Marcus Kruger and Viktor Stalberg will sign from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. The cost for one autograph is $35. Two autographs will cost $60.
Andrew Shaw is scheduled to appear from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. One autograph will cost $45, and two autographs will cost $80.
Marian Hossa is scheduled to appear from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. One autograph will cost $79, and two autographs will cost $149.
