Teen killed day of protection hearing

COLUMBIA (AP) — A teenage girl found dead in her ex-boyfriend's southwestern Illinois home apparently was killed the same day she was to appear with him for a court hearing on a protection order issued against him on her behalf.

Investigators say the body of 17-year-old Erin Schneider was found shortly after noon Thursday in a Columbia home after Schneider's parents asked police to check that residence for their daughter.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the emergency protection order on Friday.

Schneider's mother had obtained the order June 13 on her daughter's behalf. It was to have been argued in court an hour after the victim's body was found.

Police Chief Joe Edwards says no arrests have been made or charges filed as of Friday morning. An autopsy was scheduled.
